Building a better world through better listening.

House of Pod is an award-winning audio company, producing stories at the crossroads of social justice and science. We make podcasts alongside the people most affected by the story, with community baked into the DNA of every production. Our stories are made for sound.

House of Pod started as a community podcasting hub in 2017, helping hundreds of shows launch in Denver, Colorado. We have since evolved to focus on impactful, surprising, and entertaining science and social justice stories. Our clients include National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project, Outside+, SAPIENS Magazine, The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, The Sea Change Project, and many, many more.

Rates & Transparency

We believe that a diversity of life experiences is more important than a degree, and we consider our identities and the roles they play in every production. We prioritize staffing our productions with members of the communities most affected by the story, and for this reason, we hire contractors uniquely suited to shape each story.

Our pay-scale is $50 - $125/hour depending on experience level and contracted project. We are a 100% women-owned company, and examples of past productions, such as Guardians of the River was staffed with over 60% of the team BIPOC and based out of Southern Africa.

We are funded entirely through grants, selling original work, and our partnership projects. In 2022, our grant funding includes an NEH grant and a Templeton Foundation grant, awarded to our partners at SAPIENS Magazine and the Wenner-Gren Foundation. Past grants have included a National Geographic Storytelling Grant.

Our Values

Collaboration

We build our work around listening, teaching, and sharing our talents. We believe that a team, an editor, or a partner is a gift, and we hold each other’s ideas and feedback with reverence.

Community

Community is a verb. It is an ongoing action of inclusive and equitable partnership. We create with the people most affected by a story, and we foster a safe space for producers to connect.

Constant Improvement

We make podcasts better, which means leveling up quality, deepening nuance, and taking every opportunity to learn. We challenge ourselves to experiment and evolve as people and producers.

Compassion

We build empathy in our relationships and productions. We are people-centered, and we infuse care and consideration into all aspects of our work.

Creativity

We prioritize imagination as the foundation to problem-solving and meaning-making, and we lean into curiosity in our work with new ideas and what-ifs. We say, “risk being bold instead of being boring.”

Courage

Ethics are our guide. We choose impact over fortune, and we are committed to telling the truth, even when it’s difficult.
